We went to a cool shoe store because Dan wanted to find some new boots. They didnt have the ones he liked in his size. We looked in some other cool places, used clothes stores, book stores, etc. We also:
saw an old synagogue that had been bombed but was now being rebuilt
saw some exhibits
found two great cafes totally by chance
went in a beautiful cathedral dome, which you could climb up in the spiral staircase (looking a bit like an M.C. Esher painting from some altitudes) and at the top there was a huge contraption suspended from the ceiling in which sat a man playing songs on the hundreds of church bells attached to it (very Dr. Seuss-like), and you could go out onto the balustrade and see the whole city
walked and walked and walked, all around "East" Berlin and from Alexanderplatz, past the huge golden ball on a stick (a radio tower with a revolving restaurant), through Marx-Engels Forum where we saw rabbits and the large statue of Marx & Engels, across the museum island, down Unter der Linden, through the Brandenberg gate (before which there was a large peace display of flowers and candles for Croatia), and down the long road through the park (where we saw many more rabbits hanging out and munching grass) to the angel on the pillar and then through the rest of the park to U. Tiergarten (oh, I guess that was the name of the park, too)
It was a great way to wind up our stay in Berlin, but it was pretty hard to leave anyway.
