Basic Instinct

11 May 1992

I was wrong about Hook being the worst movie I've ever seen. Jasmine, her aunt, her aunt’s friend, and I went to see Basic Instinct. Now, if the next movie I see is worse than this, I’m going to have to stop going to movies because this was awful. It was just a gross, senseless, violent, depressing message about the current attitudes towards women. Every woman in the movie was a murderer and was sleeping with (I mean having sex with) one of the other women. Every murder in the movie was committed by a faceless woman, and the question was never solved of which one it was – they were interchangeable in that sense. Also, they were psychotic, lying, back-stabbing, scheming, and lots of other things. Incidentally, Michael Douglas played a man who was all these things, and also a murderer and also had sex (even raped his "girlfriend") and he was the hero of this film. There was no sense to any of it.

The French people laughed at the "dramatic" moments in the beginning. This movie was absurd. Basic Instinct ticket
